Pink Bird Mahj: Card Coach · Last updated 20 September 2026

Pink Bird Mahj LLC ("we", "us") makes the mobile application Pink Bird Mahj: Card Coach (the "app"). This policy explains what the app does and does not collect. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than boilerplate.

The short version. The app has no accounts and no login. Your practice history stays on your phone. The only thing you send us is a photo you deliberately take with the tile scanner, which is sent for tile recognition and not retained afterwards. Like any request over the internet, it arrives with your device's IP address, and we hold that for about a minute to stop the scanner being abused. We do not sell data, and we do not use advertising or third-party analytics.

Information stored on your device

The app keeps the following in local storage on your phone. It is not transmitted to us, and it is deleted when you uninstall the app:

The tile scanner and your camera

The app can use your camera so you can photograph a rack of tiles and have them identified. The camera is used only when you choose to open the scanner, and the app asks your permission first.

When you take a scan, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to an AI vision service for the sole purpose of recognising which tiles are in the image. The service returns a list of tiles and the app discards the rest. We do not store your photos, we do not build a library of them, and they are not used to train any model on our behalf.

If you never open the scanner, no image ever leaves your phone.

Your IP address, and why we hold it briefly

Every request sent over the internet arrives carrying the IP address of the device that sent it. That is how the internet works, and it is true of the tile scanner too.

We use it for one thing. Our scanner counts how many scans have come from an address in the last minute and refuses any beyond ten, so that nobody can point a script at the service and run up a bill. To count them we have to remember the address for the length of that minute. The record deletes itself about seventy seconds after it is written, and it is never linked to you, to a name, or to anything else we hold — there is nothing to link it to, because the app has no accounts.

We do not log your IP address anywhere else, and we do not use it to work out who or where you are.

What we do not do

Payments

If and when the app offers a paid subscription, purchases are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those companies process your payment under their own privacy policies. We never see or store your card details.

Children

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can revoke camera permission at any time in your phone's settings; the rest of the app continues to work without it. Because your practice data lives only on your device, uninstalling the app removes it. If you have a question about your information, write to us — we would rather answer it than have you guess.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app.
